A key element of protecting the integrity and reputation of Carry Australia is ensuring that its decision-making processes are not affected by conflicts of interest. This form is one of the tools we use to identify and address actual or potential conflicts.
Conflicts are situations where a Carry Australia Committee Member or Senior Peer Educator or Peer Educator could be influenced to make decisions for improper reasons, particularly for reasons that relate to their own financial or material interests. It is the responsibility of all Carry Australia Committee Members, Senior Peer Educators and Peer Educators to disclose any personal financial or material interests that could relate to their work for the Carry Australia, so that potential and actual conflicts can be addressed.
What is a “conflict of interest”?
Generally, a conflict of interest is a situation in which a Carry Australia Committee member, Senior Peer Educator or Peer Educator has a competing professional or personal financial or material interest that could have a real or perceived effect on their ability to fulfill his/her responsibilities with the best interests of Carry Australia in mind. Conflicts can create the perception that a Committee member, Senior Peer Educator or Peer Educator’s judgement is biased. As such, conflicts can compromise or undermine the trust that our members and the general public place in Carry Australia as a non-biased source of babywearing information.
What do I need to declare through this form?
This Declaration of Interest Form is designed to identify and address both actual and potential conflicts of interest and other ethics-related issues.
There are four questions in the Declaration of Interest Form. Guidance and examples for completing each question are provided below. These examples are not exhaustive; if you are unsure whether to disclose a particular situation in your Form, please err on the side of over-reporting.
Declaring an interest does not exclude you from participating in the Carry Australia Committee or undertaking your role as a Senior Peer Educator or Peer Educator, it just means that we can put appropriate controls in place if making decisions about an issue that you may derive personal benefit from, particularly if it is of a financial nature. If you are unsure or would like to discuss further please contact a member of the Carry Australia Committee.
What will happen to my information?
